Frequently Asked Questions
Who can use the clinic?
Those on public assistance or those with low or fixed incomes. If you aren’t sure whether you qualify, please give us a call. Click here for a list of other low-cost spay-neuter clinics in our region.
How does the clinic work?
Once you make an appointment, you'll receive directions to the clinic and specific instructions on how to prepare for the procedure. You'll bring your pet to the clinic the morning of the day that the surgery is scheduled. Plan to pick up your pet later that afternoon. It's that simple!
Will my pet's behavior change?
Spayed and neutered pets are often more relaxed, less aggressive and more affectionate. Rumors about pets missing mating or breeding are just not true! Neutering will not make your pets fat and lazy, as some might believe.
How young can a dog or cat be spayed or neutered? Are there restrictions?
Our clinic will accept animals from 12 weeks to 6 years of age.
If your pet is older than 6 years, check with a local veterinarian to see about sterilization.
How long does it take for an animal to recover from the procedure?
The animals usually bounce back in a day or two.
You'll receive specific instructions about how to care for your pet after the procedure.
Is it healthier for my pet to have one litter first?
Medical evidence suggests just the opposite! Females spayed before their first heat are usually healthier. Be sure to spay early...cats can go into heat and get pregnant as early as five months of age.
